Royal City began as a documentation of New Westminster's spring rite, the Hyack Festival, its participants and the spectacle of costume - familiar, yet anachronistic, flowing from another time, and tantalizingly even outside of time.
The project has broadened. New Westminster - hard-scrabble, mythic, beautiful - is the inspiration but Royal City is a fiction. The images here portray a disappearing reality and some suggest a place that may have never existed.
